Explain this please

Okay, so I'm in my car listening to Radio K on the AM dial. There's faint static, but nothing too disturbing. Then I accelerate, and the static gets way worse. Take my foot off the pedal, and it goes back down to normal. Like, every time. I even tried little quick step/release bursts on the gas pedal, and the static went sshBZZZZshshhhhhhhhBZZZZZZZZZZshhBZZshshhhhBZZZZ ... well, you get the idea.

Aside from the fact that I find this tremendously, inexplicably entertaining, can anyone explain to me why this happens or am I going to have to call Click & Clack?

(Edited to remove that last option so y'all will answer my question!)

I was just going to say to call Car Talk! 'Cuz Tom & Ray are good with problems where the caller has to make funny noises!

(If you do call, you totally have to let us all know so we can listen to NPR!)

I have an idea, but I'm not going to tell you so you can call those guys. Did I ever tell you I've met them, when I attended a live taping of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me? I nearly peed my pants sitting next to a guy I had a crush on.

Veggie: Tell me your idea anyway! And I'm totally jealous you've met the Tappet Brothers.

I would think that something electric is interfering with the signal. Electric noise of sorts, seeing as your engine does create electricity, it would make sense that when you rev it its creating the status. Something isn't shielded, is cross connected/old. AM is more sensitive than FM (don't remember why) Your engine functions a motor, so its the same reason that when you run the blender the TV gets fuzzy.

Um, creating static... damn typing getting in the way of my thoughts.

HV is on the right track. Do you have any new chargers or anything electrical plugged in? If not, did they mess with any of the electrical the last time they had it in?
it is probably a bad ground somewhere, so when you put your foot on the accelerator, it runs your engine faster, and the alternator runs faster. this is why the difference when you step on the pedal.

Oh, here is a good link that explains it better than my ramblings: http://www.popularmechanics.com/how_to_central/automotive/1272266.html

Um, car? Well, uh, I know where the gas goes. Sorry I can't provide any actual help though.

But I have to say that Veggie & Jaysan sound smart.

"sound smart" c'mon, you know me better than that!

Yet another example of why I'm so good at faking it. ;)
